These paintings attempted to portray fire as ‘dissolving’ the landscape rather than completely annihilating it. There are no distinct straight edges and all margins between bush, sky and land are obliterated totally. Also the choice of colour was a challenge in that it would have been so tempting to use the standard ‘aggressives’ of red/orange vermillion and yellow consumed with black. This time round I wanted to show the vivid greens that were being ‘swallowed up' by the invading charcoal grey that dissolves the landscape – leaving just the white potash…….
