Experientialism
Beneath the surface of Human Experience-
“Openings’-A New Age Exhibition!
I have taken doorways, various things that were put in openings and screens to tell their experiential histories. The images of people and situations are ‘buried’ beneath the surface and only I can ‘liberate’ them in my own subjective way. Where were they fixed in time? What did they witness as silent sentinels?
Moving in and out - Falling over - Whom? What? Walked through them and what did they do behind? What did these portals witness in mankind’s overt and covert activities behind closed doors or in open doorways? How many people? Where were they going? Who were they speaking to? What were they saying? How many objects? How many animals? How many times was this repeated? AND How many times will they be looked at (and into) , in the future???
All just questions!
The Human condition! Because we do not know the answers we stand like voyeurs but can only guess at the myriads of answers that are hidden beneath the veneers of human existence that lie embedded below their tired and weathered surfaces! - the artist reveals and exposes the veneers to peel back these layers of temporal existence - it IS also a voyage in time! These openings, screens and ‘closures’ are fixed objects in time reflecting the comings and goings of joy, anxiety, sadness, loss, satisfaction and the whole gamut of life’s experiences. YOU-the observer, experience the experiences of others and so it becomes self fulfilling - the cycle goes on even with the observer looking in which proposes another dimension as if looking into a mirror - a mirrored existence - time will come back at you! In fact have you looked at this door before ? Have you in fact walked through it at an earlier time?
...I met myself coming when I was going; only to see myself leave before I had departed. Only to see my reflections past other people’s happiness and misfortunes staring back at me; and all the time the world was moving around me and past me before I could ever stand still , and yet I had never moved.....
This is the dynamic (‘moving’) essence of experientialisation - and yet simply told ...every thing and everyone who has existed before, who exists now and who will exist in the future - has a story and imprints and reflects their experiences just below the ‘surfaces’ in their environments... .‘somewhere‘ in that continuum of time we call the universe across a range of ‘things’ and objects that come into our physical world - but then we really only ever have them for a short time and even then our experiences become blurred against the experiences of all those who came before us and who will come after us - that we can exist in several timeframes at the one time is a new mode of vision...
”cos no-body knows what goes on behind closed doors”...
