(Excerpts from “A Visual Journey” 1998)
…”Here we have at least 3 ages of “Dissent’. The ‘Eureka Flag’ Bracers, the dire warnings emblazoned in the old ‘Argus’ newspaper (underneath the simulated corner) at the top left hand corner, and of course the headlines depicting the story of the Kennet government’s reactions to dissident views and groups. The vinyl or ‘lino’ is a simulated pattern and texture found in our house presently at Mt.Evelyn. The placard slung on the back of the chair WAS carried in 4 street marches and the pencil and ruler etc. are owned by ‘Two Farthings’ which of course made one ..”Halfpenny”! (‘John’ of course – whose actual signature appears on the placard ) – The ‘Headlines” are mostly originals from the ‘Age’ or ‘Herald Sun’ of the time when I felt that these particular stories were either brutal or important turning points to document for history. The actual person remains a mystery…..”
